Finland and Sweden are grappling with the most frigid temperatures of the winter season, plunging to minus 40C (minus 40F) or lower as the Nordic cold snap tightens its grip on the region. On Tuesday, Nikkaluokta, a small village in northern Sweden, recorded the lowest temperature at minus 41.6C (minus 42.8F), while various areas in the region experienced temperatures as low as minus 30C (minus 22F), according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

SVT meteorologist Nils Holmqvist stated, "It's the coldest temperature we have had so far this winter, and it will continue to be quite cold weather in the north." The severe cold has led to significant disruptions in train travel in northern Sweden, and the institute has issued a second-highest warning for snow and wind.

In Finland, the northwestern town of Ylivieska reported the coldest reading of the winter at minus 37.8C (minus 36F) on Tuesday, with parts of the Arctic Lapland region experiencing temperatures below minus 30C (minus 22F). The Finnish Meteorological Institute warns of even colder conditions, with temperatures potentially dropping below minus 40C (minus 40F). Helsinki is also bracing for chilly temperatures between minus 15C (5F) and minus 20C (minus 4F) throughout the week.

Southern Norway faced disruptions, with a section of the E18 highway closed due to weather-related issues. In Denmark, the Danish Road Directorate shut down a key bridge for vehicles with light trailers due to strong winds affecting driving conditions. The Danish Meteorological Institute predicted heavy snowfall in the northern part of the country. The Arctic blast continues to impact the Nordic region, posing challenges and prompting cautionary measures.
