His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai graced the inaugural Dubai Jet Suit Championship held at Dubai Harbour, marking a significant milestone in the world of air racing.
Organized collaboratively by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and Gravity Industries, a pioneering force in advancing air racing, the event received support from the Skydive Dubai Club and XDubai.
During the event, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan engaged with champion Emirati air racer Ahmed Al Shehhi and Richard Browning, the visionary Founder and CEO of Gravity Industries, commending all participants for their historic contribution to the competition.
The adrenaline-fueled race witnessed a British triumph as Issa Calvon, Paul Jones, and Freddie Hay claimed the top three positions. The winners received their accolades from His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Nasser Jamal, representing Imtiaz Real Estate Development Company, among the event's sponsors. Assistant Secretary General of DSC, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, was also present during the ceremony.
The championship captivated spectators as contestants, including the UAE's Ahmed Al Shehhi, showcased their daring maneuvers, navigating through a course of 12 checkpoints spanning 700 meters. The event, attended by thousands of spectators alongside visitors to the Dubai International Yacht Show and millions of viewers worldwide, featured competitors propelled through the air by jet-powered suits.
HE Hareb commended the championship for elevating Dubai's status in the global sports arena and recognized Al Shehhi's groundbreaking achievement as the first Emirati and Arab athlete to participate in such a daring contest.
In addition to congratulating the participants, HE Hareb applauded the event's role in promoting courage, skill, and technological innovation.
