The Israeli military declared a significant withdrawal of several thousand troops from the besieged Gaza Strip, marking the first notable pullback since the conflict began in October. Pressure from the United States to adopt a lower-intensity approach with fewer civilian casualties has intensified. Despite the withdrawal, fierce fighting continues in Khan Younis, emphasizing Israel's commitment to pursuing its goals, including dismantling Hamas.

In a statement on Monday, the military revealed that five brigades were being withdrawn for training and rest, though the exact implications for the ongoing conflict were not clarified. Army spokesperson Daniel Hagari emphasized the prolonged nature of the war, suggesting a potential shift in Israel's operational approach.

Retired Brigadier General Shlomo Brom hinted at a possible adjustment in Israel's strategy, influenced by U.S. pressure. He indicated that while the war persists, a different mode of operations may be commencing. Israel's three-stage approach, involving intense shelling, ground invasion, and now mopping-up missions, reflects the evolving dynamics of the conflict.

With tanks and troops controlling much of the Gaza Strip, the military anticipates a lengthy process involving intense missions against terrorists. Meanwhile, the U.S. announced the relocation of its naval assets in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Palestinian death toll in the Israeli assault on Gaza since October 7 has surpassed 21,978, according to Palestinian health authorities. The Israeli military reported 172 soldiers killed, engaging in cross-border battles with Hezbollah. Hezbollah confirmed the death of three fighters in southern Lebanon, while Israel targeted Hezbollah-operated sites. Over 100 Hezbollah fighters and nearly two dozen civilians have reportedly lost their lives.
