The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dispatched a substantial aid convoy comprising more than 1.6 million pieces of warm clothing and blankets destined for the Gaza Strip. The initiative, overseen by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), is part of the 'Be their Warmth' campaign, aimed at providing relief to Palestinians enduring the ongoing conflict and harsh winter conditions.

The aid, to be distributed in phases, comes as a crucial lifeline for those grappling with the lack of shelter amidst plunging temperatures and the ongoing Israel-Gaza war. Gaza, already facing a humanitarian crisis, has witnessed over 21,100 casualties since the conflict erupted on October 7, with the majority of its 2.2 million population displaced.

The ERC delegation in Gaza, led by Mohammed Omar Al Shimmar, highlighted the collaboration between the UAE and Egypt in ensuring the secure delivery of aid packages through the Rafah border crossing. The ERC has also launched a public donation drive, urging contributions ranging from Dh10 to Dh300 to fund the purchase of essential winter items, heating devices, food baskets, and health packages.

Donations can be made online through the Emirates Red Crescent website or at designated donation boxes in public venues such as shopping centers and markets. The UAE's commitment to supporting Gaza includes the establishment of a field hospital and providing medical treatment for 1,000 injured Palestinian children and 1,000 cancer patients in UAE hospitals.

The UAE has consistently called for a permanent ceasefire to safeguard civilians, and this recent aid shipment is part of the nation's ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Multiple aid flights carrying essential supplies have been sent to address the urgent needs of the affected population.
