The deportation strategy of Pakistan against Afghans was deliberated with a visiting US official

During their meeting at the Foreign Office on Tuesday, Ambassador Julieta Valls Noyes, US Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, and Pakistan's Special Representative on Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, specifically discussed Pakistan's policy of returning all undocumented Afghans to Afghanistan, as well as those who have been assured by Washington that they will be eligible for consideration under the US Refugee Admissions Programme (USRAP). "Having Ambassador Julieta Valls Noyes here was a delight. Donald Blome, the US ambassador, attended the conference as well. Ambassador Asif Durrani stated, "We talked about concerns about Afghan refugees and their resettlement, but he declined to provide any discussion specifics. Following the meeting, Julieta Valls Noyes stated, "It was good to visit the Pakistani Foreign Ministry and see Ambassador Asif Durrani, Special Representative for Afghanistan, again today for discussion on Afghan refugees, protection, and resettlement." On Monday, Ambassador Noyes arrived in Pakistan after attending COP 28 in Dubai. Following a letter from a group of former US diplomats and representatives of resettlement organizations, which asks Pakistan not to deport thousands of Afghans waiting for US visas under an American program that relocates at-risk Afghan refugees fleeing Taliban rule, Noyes met with officials at the Foreign Office.
