In an attempt to stop the avian flu spread, France ordered the third vaccination for foie gras ducks
For at-risk ducks, France has placed an order for a third batch of bird flu shots. France's agriculture ministry stated on Wednesday that the vaccinations are intended to prevent an increase in outbreaks, citing "new scientific evidence". Following the discovery of additional cases, Paris increased the danger level of bird flu to high on Tuesday, necessitating poultry farmers to confine their animals indoors. "New scientific evidence has led us to adjust the vaccination protocol to guarantee the best possible protection of animals and avoid any epizootic outbreak," the ministry stated in a statement. "For this, a three-dose protocol will be applied ... until March 15, 2024, in areas identified at risk and targeting mallard ducks." A contentious choice for foie gras, mallard ducks are a cross between two separate domestic ducks raised for meat.
