When the fire broke out early on Tuesday, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, 26 guests were staying at the guesthouse.
A devastating fire at a guesthouse in Romania has resulted in the tragic deaths of five individuals, including a child, as emergency services rushed to the scene in the village of Tohani in Prahova county.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations reported that the incident occurred early on Tuesday, with 26 people present at the guesthouse when the blaze ignited. At midday, emergency authorities confirmed the fourth and fifth casualties, prompting search and rescue teams to locate five missing individuals.
Details remain unclear regarding whether the additional two deceased were part of the group listed as missing. Emergency authorities also revealed that 18 people successfully escaped the fire, with two of them receiving treatment for burns.
By 12:45 pm, the firefighting efforts successfully extinguished the flames, while authorities continued their search for the missing persons in the approximately 1,000 square meters (10,800 square feet) affected area.
As of now, the cause of the tragic blaze remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire at the guesthouse in Tohani. The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning, with authorities working to provide support to the affected families during this difficult time.
