Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently announced the inauguration of the Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station, a significant addition to the city's marine transport infrastructure. This station, strategically located to serve the Old Baladiya Road Area and the Gold Souq, plays a vital role in connecting key areas such as Al Fahidi and Bur Dubai Stations.

As part of RTA's comprehensive master plan aimed at enhancing marine transport services and facilities, the project underscores Dubai's commitment to accommodating the city's exponential growth across various sectors, particularly tourism. Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity while providing essential amenities and expanding sheltered waiting areas at the station.

Bahrozyan highlighted the remarkable outcomes of the improvement works, citing a significant increase in revenues and station capacity. Notably, the station has also attained a silver category Green Building Certification, reflecting RTA's dedication to sustainable development.

The opening of the Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station aligns with RTA's broader plan for the development of marine transport from 2020 to 2023. With marine transport serving over 17 million passengers annually, RTA continues to advance initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience for commuters while prioritizing safety and security measures.

Looking ahead, RTA is actively progressing with the second phase of its project to upgrade traditional abra stations along Dubai Creek, further enhancing the overall transit experience for passengers. The continued growth of marine transport, especially with the development of the Dubai Water Canal, signifies a promising future for the sector. As urban and touristic amenities along the canal continue to evolve, marine transport is poised to emerge as the preferred mobility choice for residents, tourists, and visitors alike, offering unparalleled views of Dubai's iconic landmarks along the waterfront.
