The veil of mystery shrouding Virat Kohli's absence from the Test series against England has finally been lifted, courtesy of an announcement by his wife, former Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma. The couple revealed the birth of their second child, a baby boy born on February 15th, putting an end to speculations surrounding Kohli's reasons for his temporary withdrawal from cricket engagements.

Taking to Instagram, Anushka shared the joyous news, stating, "With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay, Vamika’s little brother, into this world! We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time. Love & Gratitude, Virat & Anushka."

Kohli and Anushka tied the knot in 2017 in a private ceremony in Italy, culminating years of courtship. Their first child, daughter Vamika, was born on January 11, 2021, and the couple had diligently shielded her from the public eye, keeping her away from media attention and ensuring her anonymity for nearly a year.

Former South African captain AB de Villiers inadvertently unveiled the mystery surrounding Kohli's absence when he mentioned on his YouTube channel that Kohli and Anushka were expecting their second child. This revelation inadvertently explained Kohli's withdrawal from the five-match Test series against England. Although de Villiers later retracted his statement and apologized for the confusion caused, fans were already convinced that the cat was out of the bag.

Initially, Kohli had withdrawn from the Test series' first two matches citing personal reasons, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to urge the media and fans to respect his privacy and refrain from speculation. A BCCI press release stated, "Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the series. Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention."

The BCCI expressed support for Kohli's decision, emphasizing confidence in the remaining squad members' abilities to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series.
