Sydney authorities have detained martial arts instructor Lion Yoo in connection with the tragic deaths of three individuals yesterday. The victims have been identified as Min and Stephen Cho, along with their seven-year-old son, Benjamin.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed. NSW Police Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty described the incident as "cataclysmic" and "tragic," emphasizing the loving nature of the deceased family.
Events unfolded late Monday night when a 49-year-old man, presumably Yoo, arrived at Westmead Hospital with apparent slash wounds. He claimed to have been assaulted in a car park outside a North Parramatta supermarket on Church Street.
The following morning, authorities conducted a welfare check at a Baulkham Hills residence, where they discovered the body of Stephen Cho, aged 39. Subsequently, police were summoned to Lion's Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy in North Parramatta, where the lifeless bodies of Min Cho, 41, and Benjamin were found.
Yoo, currently under police supervision at the hospital, was apprehended overnight. Doherty indicated that murder charges were anticipated against Yoo. It was revealed that the slain child had been a student at Yoo's martial arts studio.
According to Doherty, police allege that Yoo committed the murders of Mrs. Cho and Benjamin within the studio premises on Monday. Later that evening, Yoo purportedly engaged in a confrontation with Mr. Cho at the family's Baulkham Hills home, resulting in Mr. Cho's demise.
Despite undergoing surgery, Yoo remains hospitalized and is expected to face charges soon. Doherty expressed that while the investigation is still in its early stages, authorities do not suspect the involvement of any other individuals in the tragic events.
