US military aircraft carrying eight crew members crashes off the coast of Japan
A US military plane crashed into the water on the southern Japanese shore. Japan's coastguard said on Wednesday that the wreckage of a US Osprey, which crashed while carrying eight crew members, had been located together with a deployed lifeboat. The accident site is off the island of Yakushima, which is situated south of the main island of Kyushu. The coastguard said that it got an emergency contact from a fishing boat close to the disaster site on Wednesday afternoon. "We got the information today at 2:47 PM [05:47 GMT]," a coast guard representative stated. "We were informed that there were eight members of the crew on board as well." The aircraft vanished off the radar around 2:40 PM local time, as confirmed by Hirokazu Matsuno, the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan.
