The E3 video game convention is discontinued forever

One of the most prominent video game conventions, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), is officially coming to an end, according to organizers. E3, which has been held in Los Angeles since 1995, was a key platform for game companies to unveil their latest creations.

Organized by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), E3 had been on hiatus since its cancellation in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even before the pandemic, E3 faced challenges, with several companies opting out or organizing their events. In 2021, E3 hosted a virtual-only event, and plans for a comeback in 2022 were scrapped after major players like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo decided not to participate.

In an official statement, the ESA mentioned, "After more than two decades of serving as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry, ESA has decided to end E3." Moving forward, the ESA intends to focus on supporting member companies and the industry workforce.
