Amid a financial dispute, Zelensky unexpectedly cancels the US Senate briefing
A high-profile meeting with US senators was canceled by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky due to a standoff over future US assistance for the nation. Virtual appearances in the House and Senate were postponed until the last minute on Tuesday. It followed a warning from a senior Ukrainian official that if further US military help is not granted, they risk losing the conflict with Russia. Leading senator Chuck Schumer failed to explain Mr. Zelensky's absence. The leading Democrat in the house stated that the president of Ukraine was preoccupied with a "last-minute" issue, but she did not elaborate. Andriy Yermak, Mr. Zelensky's chief of staff, warned earlier on Tuesday that without ongoing US help, there was a "big risk" of Ukrainian loss. He said, "It will be difficult to keep in [the] same positions and for the people to survive," during a lecture given in Washington, DC, at the US Institute of Peace.
