Shakira's Statue in Colombia

In a celebration of Colombian pride, a colossal 21.3ft (6.5 meters) bronze statue of international pop sensation Shakira has been unveiled in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia. The statue captures the iconic singer during her trademark hip-swiveling dance moves, a nod to the legendary tale that she first showcased these moves at the age of four at a table in a Lebanese restaurant.

Shakira took to Instagram to share her excitement, expressing gratitude to sculptor Yino Márquez and his students for their "enormous artistic talent." In her posts, she celebrated the tribute to Colombian women and Barranquilleras, both within and beyond her homeland.

The larger-than-life statue, while impressive, doesn't claim the title of the largest pop icon statue ever erected. That distinction belongs to Forever Marilyn, a 26-ft tribute to Marilyn Monroe in Palm Springs, California. Nevertheless, Shakira's statue pays homage to her global influence and cultural significance.

The unveiling ceremony featured Shakira sharing images of her parents standing proudly beside the monumental bronze figure. Overjoyed by the gesture, she expressed, "This is too much for my little heart."

Unlike some large statues that have faced criticism for perceived objectification, Shakira's statue has been met with appreciation and admiration. No controversies have arisen regarding its unveiling in Barranquilla.

In her acknowledgments, Shakira highlighted the artistic prowess of Yino Márquez and his students, recognizing the "enormous artistic talent" that brought the giant bronze sculpture to life.

While this monumental tribute celebrates Shakira's cultural impact and success, the singer has recently been in the headlines for her musical releases and legal matters. Earlier this year, she made waves with the release of "El Jefe," a song addressing her former partner, Gerard Piqué. Additionally, Shakira settled a tax fraud case in Spain, paying a substantial fine to avoid a trial and stating that her decision was influenced by personal, emotional, and sentimental reasons unrelated to legal considerations.
