Dubai Municipality and Continental are organizing a sustainable volleyball court constructed from used tires
Dubai Municipality has joined forces with Continental Tires to enhance the city's sporting infrastructure by introducing a unique public volleyball court crafted from recycled tires, marking a significant step towards sustainability. The court, slated to open in December at Al Mankhool, embodies Dubai Municipality's commitment to fostering sustainability and community engagement projects aligned with circular economy principles.
Following a successful pilot project in Hanover, Germany, where Continental Tires created a sustainable basketball court using a similar approach, the company will repurpose tires into rubber paving stones to construct the foundation of the volleyball court. This meticulous process ensures the extraction of all chemical components, aligning with environmentally responsible practices for tire repurposing.
Ahmed Ibrahim Al Zarouni, Director of the Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, "This project is not just about building new facilities sustainably; it is about reinventing materials to enhance community engagement in line with the circular economy."
José De la Fuente, Managing Director of Continental Tires Middle East, emphasized the initiative's commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement, stating, "This volleyball project stands as a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility. By transforming used tires in such a way, we not only contribute to reducing waste but also showcase our dedication, in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, to fostering community engagement through sport."
Upon its opening, the volleyball court will invite the local community to experience and enjoy the sustainable facility, promoting a more active and engaged lifestyle in Dubai.
