H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai participated in a thought-provoking discourse concerning the pivotal role Middle Eastern cities have historically played in propelling human advancement. The session, hosted at the Za’abeel Majlis, witnessed the esteemed presence of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
Delivered by Dr. Roy Casagranda, a distinguished Professor of Government at Austin Community College (ACC) renowned for his expertise in the Middle East, the talk drew the attention of ministers and other notable dignitaries. Dr. Casagranda eloquently elaborated on the historical significance of Middle Eastern cities, tracing their contributions to the evolution of civilization, innovation, and commerce, particularly as pivotal hubs within global trade routes. While acknowledging a decline in influence over the past centuries, Dr. Casagranda underscored Dubai's recent emergence as a beacon of growth, spearheading innovation and ideas that resonate globally.
Central to Dr. Casagranda's discourse were the imperative factors for Middle Eastern cities to reclaim their roles in driving human development, namely education, innovation, and talent cultivation. He emphasized the vital importance of creative problem-solving and governmental support in fostering an environment conducive to social progress. Dubai stood out as a prime exemplar of these principles in action, showcasing its dedication to fostering novel ideas through collaborative endeavors spanning government, the private sector, and the community.
In a separate engagement, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed interacted with volunteers participating in the 'Day for Dubai' initiative, which encourages residents to dedicate a day each year to assist those in need. Accompanied by Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi, Executive Director of Watani Al Emarat Foundation of UAE, Sheikh Hamdan lauded the volunteers for their impactful contributions, particularly in alleviating the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully organizing the UN climate conference COP28 in Dubai. Al Falasi expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hamdan for his unwavering support for volunteerism and his efforts in fostering robust community partnerships.
