One noteworthy unit within Apple's AI endeavors is the 'conversational AI' unit, alternatively known as "Foundational Models." This specialized unit, overseen by John Giannandrea, Apple's Head of AI since his recruitment in 2018, comprises a team of 16 highly skilled engineers, including former Google professionals. Their primary focus is enhancing the performance of 'Siri,' Apple's renowned digital voice assistant.
Reports from 'The Information' indicate that Apple harbors various other AI teams with specific objectives. The Visual Intelligence unit, for instance, is dedicated to crafting an image generation model akin to Midjourney or Dall-E2. Additionally, another dedicated AI group is delving into the research and development of 'multimodal AI,' which encompasses AI models proficient in recognizing and generating images and videos.
