A French court begins a prosecution against teenagers for the teacher's beheading

Six youths have been put on trial in private about the execution of Samuel Paty, a French history teacher. In 2020, during a lesson on freedom of speech, the instructor showed his students cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which led to the shocking murder that horrified the nation. Paty, 47, was shot dead by police shortly after Abdoullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old attacker of Chechen descent, killed him outside his school in a neighborhood of Paris. Because of their age, the six boys cannot be recognized. They covered their faces with sweatshirts when they appeared in court on Monday. Five of the six, who were between the ages of 14 and 15, could spend up to 2.5 years in jail for engaging in violent criminal conspiracy. They are charged with providing the killer's teacher's identity in return for cash.
