WhatsApp is testing the feature to share status updates from its web interface and companion devices
Currently, WhatsApp users may utilize linked companion devices to send and receive messages, make calls, and see the status updates of other users.
WhatsApp is set to introduce support for sharing status updates from linked devices, as reported by feature tracker WABetaInfo. The Meta-owned messaging service will enable users to post status updates from both the web version and connected 'companion' devices. Beta testers, particularly those enrolled in WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Android beta versions, can already explore this feature on their secondary devices. The companion mode, allowing access to chats on up to four other devices even when the primary smartphone is offline, is expanding its capabilities.
In the latest WhatsApp Web beta version 2.2353.59, WABetaInfo identified a new feature enabling users to share status updates directly from the web client. Beta testers can click on the green icon next to their profile photo in the Status section, selecting either Photos & Videos or Text to upload a status update. This functionality is also extending to companion devices, as detailed in the recent findings by WABetaInfo. Users with WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.1.4 will soon have the option to add a status update directly from their companion device, broadening the range of features available on these linked devices.
WhatsApp has been expanding its companion device offerings, with recent testing of WhatsApp for iPad for beta testers in the TestFlight program. However, it's essential to note that both the Android and iOS beta programs for WhatsApp are currently at capacity, and new users are not currently being accepted for WhatsApp beta updates.
