Originally scheduled to depart Guam at 7:35 a.m. on January 1, 2024, and land in Honolulu, Hawaii at 6:50 p.m. on December 31, 2023, the flight aimed to take passengers back a year. United Airlines promoted the concept, tweeting, "You only live once, but you can celebrate New Year’s Eve twice!" and declaring "Time travel is real" in an Instagram post about Flight UA200.

However, the flight faced delays, departing Guam at 1:49 p.m. on January 1 and arriving in Honolulu at 12:34 a.m. on January 1, missing the countdown and disappointing passengers hoping for a double New Year's celebration.

Some passengers expressed their frustration on social media platforms, with one person mentioning, "Great idea, too bad it got delayed! I was supposed to be on this flight. Double new year isn’t happening anymore." Another comment read, "I booked this flight specifically so I could do this," highlighting the disappointment caused by the delay. United Airlines responded on social media by offering rebooking assistance to affected passengers.

In contrast, other punctual flights, such as Cathay Pacific's CX872 and All Nippon Airways' NH106, successfully executed the New Year's Eve time-travel concept, departing in the early hours of January 1 and arriving at their destinations on December 31, allowing passengers to celebrate the transition into the new year twice.
