The US allows sales of weapons worth millions to the UAE and Saudi Arabia

A $583 million arms deal to Saudi Arabia was approved by the Biden administration on Monday, as the Gulf is becoming more tense as a result of many Houthi maritime strikes. The RE-3A Tactical Airborne Surveillance System Aircraft Modernization and supporting equipment were included in the deal, according to the State Department. Saudi Arabia had asked to buy equipment to update the TASS planes it had purchased from Boeing in the 1980s. Among other items, the monarchy sought seven GPS/INS security systems, communications gear, and signals intelligence systems. The Pentagon stated in a statement that "by strengthening Saudi Arabia's surveillance capability to counter current and future regional threats, this proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States." The Biden administration also announced that it has authorized the $85 million sale of 18 AN/TPQ-50 radar systems to the United Arab Emirates in addition to the sale to Saudi Arabia.
