Many are killed by landslides and floods in northern Tanzania

According to a local official, flooding-related landslides in northern Tanzania have resulted in at least 47 fatalities and 85 injuries, with concerns that the number might climb. Katesh, which is located around 300 kilometers (186 miles) north of the capital Dodoma, saw heavy rain on Saturday, according to district commissioner Janeth Mayanja. Regional commissioner for the Manyara region of northern Tanzania, Queen Sendiga, informed local media that "up to this [Sunday] evening, the death toll reached 47 and 85 injured." Both cautioned that there will probably be more deaths. Many of the area's roadways were obstructed by mud, water, and uprooted trees and stones, Mayanja continued. While attending the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania conveyed her sympathies and said that she had directed "more government efforts to rescue people."
