Rain in Karachi

Many cities in Sindh, including Karachi, are bracing for torrential rainfall starting Thursday. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating heavy snowfall and windstorms in some parts of the country from February 29 to March 2.

The Met Office's weather advisory warns of potential flash floods and disruptions to daily life in vulnerable areas due to the anticipated heavy rain and snowfall.

A potent westerly wave is expected to approach western regions on February 29, gradually enveloping most parts of the country by March 1. This weather system may persist for approximately two days. In Sindh, Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, and other cities are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms on February 29 and March 1. Isolated hailstorms are also a possibility during this period, according to the PMD.

Balochistan is set to witness widespread heavy rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, and surrounding areas on February 29 and March 1.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) anticipates heavy to extremely heavy widespread rain and thunderstorms in Peshawar, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and other regions from February 29 to March 3.

Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir are also poised for heavy to extremely heavy widespread rain, accompanied by windstorms and snowfall during the forecast period.

In Punjab, Lahore, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and other areas are expected to experience widespread heavy rain with windstorms. The Met Office cautions that this heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs of Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan on February 29 and March 1.

Furthermore, heavy rainfall may trigger flash flooding in hill torrents of KP, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, and local nullahs of Islamabad on March 1 and 2.

The Met Office also warns of potential road closures in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, and Neelum Valley during the forecast period. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this time.

Additionally, the PMD has urged all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential adverse situations during the forecast period.
