In the Middle East War, Qatar was the preferred mediator. Its historic voyage to Tel Aviv preserved a fragile peace
The agreement seemed like it was about to fall apart. Israel was preparing to continue its deadly assault on the Gaza Strip, and Hamas had accused Israel of breaking its end of the agreement. That was the moment on Saturday when a Qatari aircraft touched down at Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport. The negotiators on board began to work, trying to keep the cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Hamas-led government in Gaza from collapsing and ending weeks of intense diplomatic haggling. There are no formal diplomatic ties between Israel and Qatar, therefore this was the first time that Qatari officials have been to Israel in public. It also highlighted how important the little emirate was in mending the enemy's divisions.
