UK sending one of its deadliest warships to the Gulf to thwart organizations supported by Iran
In the aftermath of Israel's battle against Hamas, the UK is deploying one of its most deadly warships to the Gulf to thwart mounting threats to commerce from Iran and Iranian-backed organizations. The US military had to rescue another vessel on Sunday after Houthi militants in Yemen captured a cargo ship connected to Israel in the Red Sea last week. This prompted the deployment of HMS Diamond, a Type 45 destroyer with the capacity to launch missiles from the skies. The defense secretary, Grant Shapps, said that he was strengthening a long-standing Royal Navy marine security operation in the Gulf to lessen the possibility that the present crisis between Israel and Hamas, which is backed by Tehran, might turn into a regional war. He told a gathering of reporters, "This is a response to what's happening in the region."
