The United Arab Emirates' climate plan is now rated "critically insufficient"

The country that is hosting the climate conference, the United States, has had its climate plan reclassified to the lowest category. Climate Action Tracker cat, an alliance of climate experts and think tanks, has now evaluated the climate plan of the United Arab Emirates as "critically insufficient". The committee evaluates if the "nationally determined contributions" (NDCs) that each country has submitted to the UN are adequate to keep global warming to 1.5C over pre-industrial levels. The policies that should have accompanied the UAE's recent increase in plan objectives were absent, according to CAT. "A nation like the United Arab Emirates, which has extremely high GDP per capita and extremely high per capita emissions, has to lower its emissions. That is evident. And that's not occurring at the moment," said Dr. Niklas Hohne, a professor of emission reduction and an analyst from the New Climate Institute who participated in the study.
